Ben Affleck’s passionate defence against Islamophobia has caused quite a stir

Ben Affleck found himself entwined in a heated debate about Islam whil appearing on Bill Maher’s television talk show to promote his new film Gone Girl.
Sitting alongside Maher, author and philosopher Sam Harris rattled the Gone Girl actor’s cage by asking the question whether liberals should be free to criticise the religion without fear or being branded an Islamophobe: “We have been sold this meme of Islamophobia, where every criticism of the doctrine of Islam gets conflated with bigotry towards Muslims as people. It’s intellectually ridiculous.”
“Hold on, are you the person who officially understands the codified doctrine of Islam?” Ben retorted.
“It’s gross, it’s racist.
“How about more than a billion people who aren’t fanatical, who don’t punch women, who just want to go to school, have some sandwiches, pray five times a day, and don’t do any of the things you’re saying of all Muslims. It’s stereotyping.”
The fierce argument continued as Maher persisted to comment: “It’s the only religion that act like the mafia, that will fucking kill you if you say the wrong thing.”
“So what is your solution, to just condemn Islam?” an enraged Affleck shoots back.
“We’ve killed more Muslims than they’ve killed us, by an awful lot. We’ve invaded more Muslim countries than they’ve invaded ours, by an awful lot.”
Ben Affleck’s passionate defence of the religion did not go amiss as social media exploded with praise for his comments…
