1,668 admitted patients spent some time without beds in the North West during September

Last month was the worst September on record for hospital overcrowding.

New figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show over 12, 200 patients were treated in inappropriate locations in hospitals last month.

The worst impacted hospital was University Hospital Limerick, where just shy of 2,000 admitted patients spent time without a bed.

Sligo University was the fifth most overcrowded with 884, Letterkenny was sixth with 784, a combined North West total of 1,668.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha it’s extremely concerning that the winter surge hasn’t yet begun.
