There are calls for high level intervention to source a consultant haematologist for Letterkenny General Hospital.
The hospital has been without haematology services since the departure of the previous consultant at the end of December.
Haematology services are vital for the diagnosis and treatment of blood related illnesses including leukaemia and while this position is vacant Donegal patients with suspected blood diseases must travel to Dublin and Galway.
