Residents in the Carrick area of Gweedore are said to be increasingly concerned about the particularly high Iron, Manganese and Aluminium levels found in the water.
Funding is being sought to replace water pipes from Derrybeg to Glassagh in Gaoth Dobhair which is hoped will resolve the problems.
This current system was installed in 1954 and is said to be in serious need of upgrade which would cost just over 700 thousand euro
Local Senator Brian O’Domhnaill is campaigning on the issue – he wants the Department of Environment to prioritise the issue based on scientific evidence which is available:
