The North’s Environment Minister has called a special meeting of the Road Safety Council at Stormont.
The road safety forum, which includes government agencies, the PSNI and other emergency services will meet in Parliament Buildings tomorrow.
Minister Durkan said he decided to convene the special meeting of the Road Safety Forum after five deaths in the North since January first. On Wednesday last, 62 year old Castlefinn native Patsy Mc Crory, who lived in Castlederg, died after a two car collision close to Strabane. It was the second fatal collision in West Tyrone in less than a week.
Mr Durkan says he wants to engage all involved in considering what more might be done to keep road users safe. Enormous strides have already been made in road safety, he says, and it’s imperative that everything possible is done to continue that progress.
