An explosion has occurred at a hotel in Derry, after a masked man threw a small bomb into its reception area.
The Everglades Hotel, in the Prehen area of the city, was evacuated after the device was reported at a 11:15pm last night.
The device exploded a short time later when army experts were working to make it safe.
No-one was injured in the explosion but the reception was extensively damaged.
Chief Superintendant Stephen Cargin has described the device as a firebomb, and he says it is lucky no-one was killed or seriously injured….
