The driver of an articulated truck had what’s been described as a miraculous escape last evening after his vehicle jackknifed at the Rinmore Junction, 3 kilometres from Fanad Head Lighthouse at around half past six.
The driver of had just left the Marine Harvest Processing Plant for Dublin Airport with a forty foot refrigerated container of salmon bound for the French market, when he lost control of the truck.
Local efforts to free the vehicle failed, and a heavy duty crane was brought from Letterkenny. The road remained blocked and traffic was diverted during the seven and a half hour operation.
The road was finally reopened at 2 o’clock this morning, and the driver made his way to Dublin.
