A Ronan Curtis goal on the hour gave Derry City the three points at home to Cork City on Friday night.
The home side played the better football on the night and had chances to score before the goal.
Curtis ran in on goal at the end of the first half and instead of taking the obvious shot from the edge of the box, he passed to Barry McNamee who, on his left foot, shot into the side netting.
Cork were reduced to ten men in the 81st minute when he fouled Curtis some 35 yards from the goal.
Referee Derek Tomney gave a straight red card.
