Donegal lose out in fighting comeback by Monaghan

Monaghan fought for their lives against Donegal on Sunday and won a game that they looked like losing in the opening stages.
Division One has been so tight that both Donegal and Monaghan could make the semi-finals, although the more likely hope for Monaghan at the start of today’s match was to secure their survival in the division.
But that all changed in Castleblayney when Monaghan beat Donegal 1-10 (13) to 1-09 (12).
However, Donegal still made it into the knockout round and face Dublin in the semi-final.
It had started so promisingly for Donegal, who quickly ran up a score of Donegal 1-04 against Monaghan 0-00.
It was much tighter at half-time with the scores at Monaghan 1-04 (7) v 1-07 (10) Donegal.
A frantic climax saw Monaghan finish the stronger and despite, a couple of scores from Donegal captain Michael Murphy, it was a remarkable comeback for Monaghan.
