The Donegal based road safety organisation PARC says the incoming Transport Minister must act decisively to end the practice of allowing some people make donations to court poor boxes in lieu of penalty points.
PARC’s chairperson Susan Grey was responding to an Irish Times article this week in which it was revealed that 2000 drivers escaped penalty points in Irish courts over 27 months.
Acting Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe said this was ‘incorrect’ in light of the 2010 Road Traffic Act, which mioved to outlaw the practice.
