Planning permission has been granted for the the upgrade of the existing Ballybofey/Stranorlar wastewater plant.
Irish Water says the decision paves the way for an estimated €5.2 million spend which will see the treatment capacity of the plant treble from 4,000 population equivalent to 12,200.
The contract for construction will go to tender in November 2016.
Local Councillor Gary Doherty says it is welcome news and he expects work to begin on the ground early next year:
