A sequel to Danny Boyle’s hit 1996 film is on its way next year with the cast set for a reunion
Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy and Spud are set for a reunion as Trainspotting returns.
Ewan McGregor will return as Renton, who we watched work hard to get over his heroin addiction in the 1996 film based on Irvine Welsh’s novel. The actor will be joined by original cast members Robert Carlyle as Francis Begbie, Jonny Lee Miller as Sick Boy and Ewen Bremner as Spud.
Novelist Welsh will also return in his role of Mikey Forrester.
The trailer features Renton’s famous “choose life” speech, but with a modern twist – urging people to choose “Facebook”, “Instagram” and “zero-hour contracts” – as he meets up with his pals for the first time in 20 years.
He claims to be off the heroin, but drug use features quite heavily in the trailer, as does nudity as Renton looks up old flames and gets up to his old tricks.
The original film was a box office smash, pulling in £4.7 million in its opening weekend.
T2 is set for release on January 27, 2017
