Midlands North West MEP Mairead McGuinness says it’s fundamental that future CAP funding for farmers must be defended.
The Fine Gael MEP was speaking in Strasbourg where the European Parliament this week reiterated its position on the EU’s future budget post 2020.
In a vote on Wednesday, MEPs confirmed their position on the next EU long-term budget which will run from 2021 to 2027.
The Parliament has set out a range of priorities for future funding including long-standing farming and cohesion policies which they say should not be reduced.
Ms McGuinness says future CAP budgets must be defended especially given the extra demands being made of farmers:
