Questions asked over low road funding for Lifford Stranorlar MD

Questions are being asked over how roads funding is divided by Donegal County Council among the county’s Municipal Districts.
Its claimed the Lifford Stranorlar MD is receiving on average, between €1.5 and €1.8 million less than any other Municipal District.
While management of Donegal County Council has agreed to meet Councillors in the Lifford Stranorlar MD to discuss their concerns, Councillor Patrick McGowan says they will not be letting this long-running imbalance continue:

Its also emerged that there is a huge disparity in the number of people employed in the roads section in each Municipal District throughout the county.
Figures show that 56 people work in the roads section in Inishowen, 53 in Donegal, 51 in Glenties, 74 in Letterkenny and the lowest figure, 35 in Lifford Stranorlar.
Councillor Gary Doherty believes staffing levels should be based on the state of the roads in each area and not on the amount of kilometres the MD covers.
He says the buck ultimately stops with the council to ensure a fair slice of funding and resources is made available for each MD:
