The Irish Heart Foundation is also rowing in behind on the campaign to have the Stroke Unit at Letterkenny University Hospital opened.
The charity, labelling the failure to deliver the critical unit as disgraceful, has written to all general election candidates in Donegal calling on them to guarantee, if elected to Government, the opening of the facility.
Irish Heart Foundation Head of Advocacy, Chris Macey says Letterkenny University Hospital is the only acute hospital treating stroke in the country that does not have a stroke unit.
He says this is resulting in patients in Donegal bearing the brunt of lack of investment in stroke services:
