It’s been agreed that Donegal County Council will write to the Department of Community & Rural Development, insisting that the Town & Village Renewal Fund should not merge with the Rural Regeneration programme.
Donegal is said to have not fared well in the past in terms of obtaining funding from the Rural Regeneration programme and there’s ongoing concern if the two schemes were to be amalgamated, the county would be financially impacted.
The Cathaoirleach of the Inishowen MD Cllr Martin McDermott says the plan could be stalled in the short term.
However he’s warning that smaller towns and villages will suffer in the long run if the plan isn’t scrapped entirely:
