Veteran TD Pat the Cope Gallagher was among the shock seat losses across the country.
First elected in 1981, Gallagher went on to win eight further Dáil elections and three European Parliament elections.
The Fianna Fáil TD was eliminated last night after a battle between himself and party colleague Charlie McConalogue for the final seat.
