DCC may not be able to hold face to face meetings without gardai present – Blaney

The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council says it nay not be possible to hold face to face council meetings without a garda presence.

It’s after a special meeting of council was abandoned last evening after a series of adjournments, with gardai called to investigate reports that Cllr Gary Doherty’s mobile phone was forcibly taken from him and removed from the venue by another councillor.

The meeting was discussing the report of a group of auditors commissioned by the council to carry out an individual assessment of the purchase of five houses in Buncrana.

Cathaoirleach Cllr Liam Blaney says he’ll be asking the minister to change the law governing how meetings are handled.

In the meantime, he says they’ll be asking gardai to attend the next meeting…………
