Calls for Donegal County Council to employ more support staff in every municipal district

Donegal County Council should be employing more support staff in every municipal district, according to Cllr MIchael Cholm McGiolla Easbuig.

The West Donegal representative says the local authority should have more social workers and tenant liaison officers, but most importantly, it should be employing its own occupational therapists.

The council uses OTs from the HSE, but shortages mean very long delays, particularly or assessments that are necessary before applications for grants to adapt the homes of disabled or elderly people are granted.

Officials say people can use private OTs, and the council is drawing up a panel of outside OTs it can use.

However, Cllr McGiolla Easbuig says this should not be left to the private sector.
