2024 was the fourth warmest year on record, with rainfall below average in most areas.
That’s according to Met Eireann’s Annual Climate Statement for 2024.
In Donegal, several new records were set in the Finner and Malin Head weather stations.
It was the driest year on record at Finner with 1036.9 mm of rainfall, while Malin Head recorded the wettest August in 69 years.
Malin Head also recorded the warmest May since records began 125 years ago, and its dullest December since 2011.
The weather centre also recorded the highest annual mean windspeed in Ireland at 14.9 knots or 27.6 km/h.
There were 14 days of strong gales recorded in Malin Head and five days of storm winds, both representing the highest in Ireland.
