
A Donegal Senator is to contest the competition for Leas Cathaoirleach in the upper house today.
Senator Eileen Flynn has put her name in the ring and if elected, she would be the first female of an ethnic minority in such a position.
However the Senator also says she feels her chances are slim because of the public nature of the vote.
She says the ballot should be done in secret so individuals don’t feel compelled to vote within their parties:
