Fine Gael to hold internal election for Presidential candidate

Fine Gael is expected to have an internal election for a Presidential candidate.

It’s understood that party leader Simon Harris thinks it would be important, given there wasn’t one for his role, as no one else put their name forward.

Ireland’s first president, Douglas Hyde, was the last successful candidate nominated by Fine Gael.

Speaking in Brussels, MEP Seán Kelly didn’t rule himself out:
