EU Commission fishing quota decision labelled a betrayal

A decision from the EU Commission to decrease Irish Fishing quotas by approximately 57,000 tonnes has faced criticism from various sections of the industry.

This deal, which blocks the implementation of the Hague preferences next year, could see a potential €200m of lost revenue and a possible cut of 2,000 jobs in coastal communities.

CEO of the Irish Fish Processors and Exporters Association, Brendan Byrne, has called this move a betrayal from the European Union.
