Motorists could face tougher penalties under new plans

Motorists caught speeding could soon face tougher penalties under new plans.

Junior Transport Minister Seán Canney is proposing a graduated penalty points system, with points rising from three to as many as seven for excessive speeding.

The move follows a sharp increase in road deaths last year, with 190 people killed.
