The takeover of Finn Harps Football Club is now in motion after members of the Finn Harps Co-operative Society voted to approve the Special Resolution for the proposed acquisition of the club by Freddy Gonzalez.
The vote took place at a Special General Meeting on Monday evening where 99% of the 400 votes said yes and the process now moves to the next stage.
A second SGM will be held on Tuesday, 3 November where members will consider and, if thought fit, confirm the same Special Resolution approved at the first meeting.
Before the vote took place, the proposed buyer Freddy Gonzalez and chairman Ian Harkin addressed the meeting.
Freddy confirmed that he will fund work to Finn Park under the FAI Licence that will include upgrading of floodlights, dugouts and raising the pitch.
He added that he sees the Academy as very important to the club for building its future while a move to the new stadium is also just as important because he has European football aspirations for Finn Harps.
Ian Harkin told shareholders in attendance in Jacksons Hotel and online that Harps will remain with the blue and white colours and the badge, location in the Finn Valley and the identity of the club is protected going forward if the takeover is voted after the next SGM.
Gonzalez, a former Philippines international, is now one step closer to acquiring the Ballybofey side in which he has promised an initial €4m investment.
