‘Housing Minister must declare national emergency over homelessness crisis’ – Deputy Ward

A Donegal Deputy has called on the Housing Minister to call the housing and homelessness crisis what it is: a national emergency.

Speaking in the Dáil last week, Deputy Charles Ward urged the Minister for Housing, James Browne, to call the housing and homelessness crisis what it is.

The 100% Redress Party TD said that the number of people experiencing homelessness in Ireland has increased by 80% in just three years and according to Census 2022, the largest age group among the homeless population was 0–4 year olds, accounting for 11.4% of the total homeless population.

Deputy Ward says these numbers will only continue to rise as many families impacted by the defective concrete crisis face potential homelessness:
