The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council’s Defective Blocks Committee is calling on the Housing Minister to review how the Social Housing Remediation Scheme is to be funded.
Cllr Gerry McMonagle says the experience of private homeowners is that many have had to make up shortfalls of tens of thousands of euro for their homes, and Donegal County Council may have to do that for the majority of its affected social housing stock.
At a time when councils are trying to build social homes to clear their waiting lists, Cllr McMonagle says this will be unsustainable, and following a committee meeting this week, he says it’s time for all councils to come together to lobby the minister………
