Job Description
Location: Office Based – Main Letterkenny Base with travel throughout the county as required
Hours: 35 hrs per week
Salary: 40,895.40
Annual Leave: 5 weeks p.a, bank holidays and gift hours over Christmas.

Donegal Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre has been supporting and empowering survivors of sexual violence in Co. Donegal and surrounding areas since 1997. We enable survivors to take control of their recovery in a person-centered way, improving mental
and physical wellbeing, and raising future aspirations. We provide independent, free and confidential services in an environment where survivors can receive trauma-informed, specialist support from our experienced and friendly team of staff and volunteers.
Job Description
Reports to: Manager, Donegal Sexual Abuse & Rape Crisis Centre
Responsibilities to include:
- To promote working principles of DSARCC and to observe and enforce a policy of strict confidentiality at all times in relation to all aspects of the service ensuring compliance with all Donegal Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis centre Policies and Guidelines
- Deliver targeted outreach and culturally sensitive information sessions to minority communities, including refugees, asylum seekers, LGBTQI+ individuals, members of the Traveller and Roma communities, and people with disabilities.
- Collaborate with community leaders, interpreters, and relevant services (e.g. IPAS, HSE Social Inclusion) to build trust and ensure accessible, inclusive care.
- Engage with community and collate feedback from service users to adapt service to emerging needs.
- Support staff in managing and providing adequate service to asylum and refugees in our communities.
- Tailor supports for all migrants, ensuring inclusive, culturally responsive, and trauma- informed service provision in line with national strategic goals.
- Build strong relationships with statutory and non-statutory agencies, developing and maintaining referral pathways that will support vulnerable individuals you are working with.
- Work in a culturally aware manner and provide accessible information to enable all groups to access services.
- To travel regularly throughout the service delivery area.
- To work according to Children First guidelines and DSARCC Child Protection and
Welfare policy
- Communicate with Management on a regular basis and advise them in a timely manner of issues arising from work.
- To maintain a positive and professional approach to all service users and staff
- To be motivated and action oriented in all aspects of service delivery.
- To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of areas of work as appropriate.
- To maintain and update accurate records of all files and any associated documentation using the database, and all other databases in a timely and professional manner
- To deliver group programmes to reach clients in the community.
- To represent the organisation at events and meetings/cultural forums.
- To attend and participate fully in all team meetings, trainings and supervision provided by the organisation.
- To work as part of a team, providing a welcoming, safe environment for all accessing the service.
- Other duties and tasks as may emerge in any future development and expansion of the service and which are relevant to the work of the centre.
- Any and all such work as is reasonable from time to time for DSARCC to require the employee to perform.
Personnel Specification
Essential Criteria
- A QQI level 8 (BSc Hons) or above in Social Studies, Social Science, Community Development or similar field.
- Must be familiar with RCI (Rape Crisis Ireland) guidelines and ethos and have capacity to accurately represent the views and objectives of the service
- Minimum of two years previous employment experience working with service users one to one in a support/advocacy role
- Experience of public speaking, facilitating group work and event/project management.
- Experience of liaising with other professionals and agencies who work with and refer vulnerable clients.
- Experience in the efficient management of caseload and manging competing priorities.
- Ability to engage in reflective practice.
- Capacity to create an awareness of the role and service among relevant professionals.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times within the parameters of DSARCC Child Protection policy, per Tusla guidelines
- Good IT skills and excellent organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Self-starter with ability to work on own initiative
- Organisational skills: creating a disciplined working environment, keeping accurate records and reporting.
- Excellent ability to engage with our client group with compassion, care and empathy.
- Familiarity with the core humanitarian/SPHERE principles of dignity, respect, non-discrimination and confidentiality.
- Experience using a client centered trauma-informed approach
- A flexible and adaptable work approach.
- Excellent written and spoken English- with strong verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate self-care in the aftermath of dealing with trauma.
- Must have experience of adhering to professional boundaries and maintaining confidentiality.
- Must be flexible and able to work out of office hours.
- Full Driving Licence and access to a car for travel throughout the catchment area.
Desirable Criteria
- Ability to communicate in another language eg. Arabic, Pashto, Farsi, Hindi, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, French or other.
- Experience of working in partnership with a wide range of other organisations
- Proficient in MS packages e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, programme databases, SharePoint portals
