About the Role and Projects

The role of the Youth Support Worker is to work alongside Foróige Youth Workers to facilitate the delivery of summer programmes to young people in Donegal. The role includes engaging with young people and supporting the delivery of Foróige Summer programmes. The Youth Support Worker will also engage in outreach and the promotion of youth work. The Youth Support Worker will be part of the Foróige staff team in Donegal reporting to The Senior Youth Officer.

Foroige Donegal have a large number of innovative, dynamic youth work services operating across Donegal and these roles include engaging with young people in these projects through the delivery of group work as part of Foróige’s Summer programmes for young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivery and facilitation of youth work programmes to groups of young people in partnership with Foróige youth work staff
  • Identifying & recruiting young people, including young people atrisk, to engage in summer programmes and encouraging their active participation throughout
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of programmes and activities designed in partnership with the youth worker and the young people.
  • Participating in outreach work alongside youth workers to develop relationships with young people in the area
  • Working with other Foróige staff as well as community members, agencies and organisations to identify the young people to be engaged in the Project.
  • Ensuring that programmes are delivered in a safe manner and in compliance with all health and safety guidelines
  • Recruiting, supporting and working alongside volunteers to deliver youth development activities · Engaging with other Foróige projects and services in the area as appropriate.
  • Any such other relevant duties required to support the effective delivery of Foróige Youth Work summer programmes

Skills & Experience required (D:Desirable; E:Essential)

  • Paid or voluntary, experience working with young people in a youth work setting (D)
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with young people (E)
  • An understanding of Youth Work and Community Work practice (D)
  • Experience studying Youth Work/ Social Care or similar at Third level (D)
  • Access to a car and full driving licence. (Desirable)

 

Person Specification ( Essential)

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with young people and staff
  • Good interpersonal skills, including ability to liaise with a wide range of contacts and build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Excellent standards of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to be proactive, use own initiative and work effectively within a pressurised environment
  • Positive and flexible approach to working as part of a team
  • Excellent written communications skills, including report writing and the ability to draft summary information and correspondence.
  • Ability to follow organisational guidelines and processes.
  • Good computer skills, including Word & Excel, Google Suite PowerPoint and Social Media skills
  • Flexibility in relation to hours of work to meet the needs of the work.

Benefits to Support You Salary:

Foróige Intern salary: €27,065 p.a. Annual Leave: 29 days annual leave plus Good Friday

Other Information Garda vetting: Candidates under consideration for employment in Foróige will be subject to Garda vetting.

Hours of work: Job Offers will be made for a number of posts with working hours of between 21 and up to 35 hours per week. The position will require flexibility in relation to working hours. It is expected that you will work some late evenings/ nights per week.

Travel: This post will involve domestic travel within Ireland and occasional meetings. Travel and expenses will be paid in accordance with appropriate Foróige rates.
