A host of senior politicians and celebrity guests were in attendance in Buncrana today for the opening of Donegal’s Amazing Grace viewing point.
Having come ashore at Lough Swilly John Newton went on to pen one of the most famous and well-loved songs of all time – “Amazing Grace” and to mentor William Wilberforce in his long battle to abolish the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade.
The Amazing Grace Initiative is a joint project between Buncrana Town Council and local community and business groups.

Under the Leader program the Inishowen Development Partnership supported and funded the project as part of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.
