The Defence Minister says the army may be deployed to help as the freezing weather looks set to continue.
An emergency committee, involving a number of Government departments and other agencies, is meeting this afternoon to discuss the issue.
Defence Minster Willie O’Dea says whatever is needed will be provided.
Meanwhile, Donegal Councillor Frank Mc Brearty has called on the governnment to provide money and resources to allow for the gritting and clearing of minor roads.
He says it’s time a state of emergency was declared.
