Inishowen ranks as the littering black spot in Donegal according to figures released by Donegal County Council, or it could be argued the most successful in tackling litter.
Raising the issue Councillor Terence Slowey was told that 191 litter fines were issued in total last year with a electoral area breakdown provided for the first time.
The figures, from the council’s Water Environment and Emergency Services Section, show that last year a total of 57 fines for littering were issued in Inishowen.
45 fines were issued in the Donegal electoral area with the same amount issued in the Stranorlar area.
In the Letterkenny area a total of 25 fines were issued. The least amount of people caught littering was in Glenties, with just 19 fines issued.
Of the 191 fines handed out across the county in total just 55 were paid, and of those that were not paid there was only one successful prosecution.
