Tyrone GAA manager Mickey Harte’s daughter found dead in Mauritius

Michaela Harte, the daughter of Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte, has been found dead in Mauritius.
The 27-year-old died while on honeymoon on the island.
She was married to Down footballer John McAreavey at St Malachy’s Church in Ballymacilroy, Co Tyrone on 30 December 2010.
Michaela Harte was a former Rose of Tralee contestant, and was by her father’s side during many of Tyrone’s All-Ireland campaigns.
Her husband is a nephew of Dr John McAreavey, the Bishop of Dromore, who officiated at the couple’s wedding ceremony a fortnight ago.
A joint statement issued by Mr Harte and Dr McAreavey read: ‘We wish to confirm that we have received confirmation this afternoon that Michaela, married on December 30 2010 to John McAreavey, was killed today in Mauritius where the couple were on honeymoon.
‘We ask for prayers for Michaela, John and their families and loved ones.
‘Both families are deeply shocked and devastated by this tragic news and they ask for privacy and space at this time of profound grief.’
A spokesman for the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin said: ‘We are providing consular assistance to the family of an Irish citizen who passed away in Mauritius.’
