A teenager who drove on a crowded beach was called “an idiot” by a judge and told he would have to be banned from driving as a warning to others.
The Fermanagh was banned for what Judge Mary Devins called “horrendous driving”.
18 year old Gerard Maguire was initially charged with dangerous driving on Rossnowlagh beach on April 21st, but at Ballyshshannon District Court yesterday, Judge Mary Devins reduced the charge to one of careless driving.
However, she told Maguire, of Roscor, Belleek, Co. Fermanagh, that if she didn’t ban him for “horrendous” driving on the beach with small children, “the next young idiot will drive the same way.”
Inspector Sylvie Henry said at Ballyshannon District Court that there was a practice of dangerous driving on the beach which would “have to be stamped out.”
Maguire was banned for a year and fined €200.
