SIPTU hope to reduce 29 redundancies at Abbotts in Sligo

The SIPTU Trade Union says it wishes to engage with Abbott to reduce the 29 redundancies announced at its Finisklin plant in Co. Sligo.
Management at the company – which employs around 400 people – informed staff yesterday that it is seeking the voluntary redundancies.
Abbott says no other sites in Sligo, or in Ireland, will be affected.
SIPTU says it wants to meet with Abbott to try and reduce the number of job losses and to get a guarantee that those made redundant will be adequately compensated.
Mayor of Sligo, Rosealeen O’ Grady, says she hopes this isn’t evidence of an overall decline in business for the health care company:
