It is being suggested that a lack of communication from the Ireland manager with Shay Given may have accelerated his decision to quit international soccer.
With a glittering career for Ireland behind him, Shay Given took the unusual step of announcing he was quitting international football via twitter.
The 36-year-old Lifford man, who won 125 caps for his country over a 16-year career, described it as “a most difficult decision”.
Former Ireland International goalkeeper Packie Bonner gave his reaction to the news on the Shaun Doherty Show – he questioned if communications issues between Shay and the team management played a role:
