Letterkenny excels in the 2012 Tidy Towns awards

Letterkeny has retained its gold medal in the 2012 SuperValu TidyTowns Award competition, and has been named the tidiest town in the North West region, as well as in County Donegal.
With 310 points, the town was two points behind national winner Abbeyshrule in County Longford, and one point behuind Category winners Westport in County Mayo.
Letterkenny is also one of ten towns across Ireland in the running for a prestigious tourism award, which will be announced at a later date.
Anne McGowan of the Letterkeny Tidy Towns committee says they are delighted with the results today:


A gold medal was also won by Glenties, with 304 points. Malin and Raphoe both secured silver medals with 303 and 297 points respectively.
A silver medal was also won by Buncrana, with 292 points.
Carrigart secured a bronze medal with 300 points, as well as retaining the national Gaeltacht award, which it has held for a number of years.
Ther endeavour award for Donegal went to Manorcunningham with 200 points, up 6.3% on last year.
