Pedestrian killed in Armagh collision was a native of Donegal

 

The 81 year old pedestrian who died after being struck be a lorry on the Portadown Road Armagh yesterday morning was a renowned traditional Irish musician who was originally from Donegal.

Eithne Vallely, who’s lived in Armagh for most of her adult life was born Eithne Ní Chiarda in Donegal in 1945, and grew up in Lifford.

The donegalfiddlemusic website notes that while a pupil at Murlough National School, she had her first lessons on tin whistle from Strabane teacher Sean Brady, father of singer Paul.

A celebrated fiddler, she also developed a keen interest in the Uileann Pipes, and together with hwe husband Brian Vallely, she was a founder of the Armagh Pipers Club.

The fatal collision happened shortly after 8.20am yesterday morning.

Emergency services treated her at the scene, but she was pronounced dead.

The PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
