A 20-year-old Derry man walked free from Coleraine Courthouse today after charges he faced in connection with the murder of pizza delivery man Emmet Shiels in Derry in June 2008 were not proceeded with.
Thaddeus McAllister originally from Cable Street in the Bogside area but now with an address in London had been due to face trial charged with murdering Emmet Shiels.
Thaddeus McAllister also faced a charge of attempting to murder another man, possessing a weapon and three charges of assault.
But today a prosecution barrister told the court that there would be no evidence offered.
He said that a large number of prosecution witnesses would not attend court.
He said that it had become apparent that the witnesses were reluctant to attend for various reasons.
This being so the court was told that there would be no evidence offered in the case.
McAllister was then told he was free to go.
