Maximum sentences for anyone who assaults members of the Gardai – that’s what Fianna Fáil is calling on the government to introduce.
They want individuals found guilty of assaulting gardaí, A-and-E staff and members of the fire staff to be jailed for five years.
Dara Calleary is Fianna Fáil’s spokesperson on Enterprise, highlighted the death of Garda Robbie McCallion, who was killed while on duty in Letterkenny in April 2009
And he says legislation would send out a message that this kind of behavior is unacceptable…
