Council admits sending out threatening household charge letters in error

Donegal County Council has admitted that a number of people across the county, who have already paid the Household Charge, have received a reminder letter that they may still be liable to pay.
The Council says it is regrettable that this has happened and apologised for any inconvenience or stress caused with the blame seeming to lie with the Local Government Management Agency.
Donegal County Council says the names and addresses identified as potentially not having paid the charge were as a result of a data matching exercise.
This was carried out by the Local Government Management Agency on behalf of each Local Authority for each county and against the Property Registration Authority database.
The council says It is now apparent that a number of people across County Donegal  who have already paid this charge have now received a reminder letter that they may be liable to pay.
The council says that this is regrettable and it would like to apologise for any inconvenience or stress that this has caused any householder.
Anyone who has paid the charge and who has received a letter should contact either the Local Government Management Agency or their local Public Service Centre.
