Objection lodged against Buncrana Boxing club’s plans

Boxing GlovesPlans by Illies Golden Gloves Boxing Club in Buncrana to build new facilities have hit a hurdle after a decision to grant permission for the development was appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
The club hoped to demolition its current clubhouse on the site of the Old Illies school and erect a new single story building and  car parking facilities – the those plans are now in doubt.
The club says that their plans do not include the demolishing of the Old Illies School.
A number of locals signed a petition in opposition to the Illies Golden Gloves Boxing Club plans.
They object to the demolishing of the Old Illies School on what they describe as ‘personal and historic grounds. – they group are however in favour of the current building being added to or the current building being renovate to house the boxing club.
A second party objected on the grounds that they believe the planning application was not valid as they own a portion of the land affected by the development and had yet to be consulted about it – this was contested by the boxing club.
Having considered these objections, permission for the development  was granted by the council subject to 15 conditions – these were to cater for orderly development, to preserve the amenities of the area and to ensure the safety of local of traffic.
Locals have now appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala  – they are due to announce a ruling in mid June.
