Little congress support for US ban on assault weapons

In the US, a proposed ban on assault weapons has been removed from a gun control package, after democrats conceded it would not get through Congress.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the ban which was proposed in the wake of December’s mass murder of 20 school children and six staff in Newtown, Connecticut, did not have the votes to pass.
Its now unlikely that any bill tightening gun laws will pass Congress this year.
