Donegal South West Deputy Thomas Pringle TD has hit out at a government plan to take €150 million from the Local Government Fund to write-down debt.
Calling the proposal a “complete mockery of the entire government process”, the independent deputy claimed that as the Local Property Tax comes into force, more funding raised through car tax will be diverted to pay down debt.
Previously, car tax revenue was ring-fenced for the Local Government Fund, and Deputy Pringle says that should remain the case, particularly at a time when council services are under threat……….
