The jury in the inquest of Savita Halappanavar has returned an unanimous verdict of death by medical misadventure.
After deliberating for several hours they also endorsed the coroner’s nine recommendations, central to which is a call for the Medical Council to lay out exactly when doctors can intervene to save the life of a mother.
The 31 year old died from septicaemia at Galway University Hospital last October following a miscarriage.
The jury also endorsed recommendations that blood samples are always followed up to ensure errors do not occur.
