Ambulance1The Health Minister’s warning against a focus on ambulance response times in the wake of a daming report into the service.
The health watchdog – HIQA – produced the review, highlighting how ambulances are being held up outside hospitals for long periods due to overcrowding in A&E.
This was identified as a factor in the case of Donegal woman Maura Porter, who was hit by a car close to her home in Carndonagh and waited for almost an hour on the roadside for an ambulance.
Leo Varadkar’s told the Dáil he is committed to improvements, but not necessarily in getting ambulances to people in eight minutes:
