Retired Donegal Garda Sergeant feared he’d contracted HIV after being bitten

Christy GalliganA retired Donegal garda sergeant, who was bitten on both arms while attempting to arrest a woman, has spoke of the six months he spent worrying if he had contracted Aids.
Christy Galligan says he was bit on both forearms when he tried to arrest a woman near Larkins Lane in Letterkenny after he found a brick through his car windscreen.
He says he immediately felt severe pain and the wounds had started bleeding. Eight years on the former Garda sergeant still has scars on his arms.
Mr Galligan was award 12 thousand euro in compensation at the High Court yesterday.
