The Donegal based Pro Social Drivers Programme has won the Social Entrepreneurs of Ireland Impact Award 2015.
The award was announced at a ceremony at Dublin’s Mansion House tonight (Tuesday).
The programme is targeted mostly at young motorists convicted of road traffic offences such as drink driving and speeding.
To date, over 100 offenders have been referred by the local courts to participate in the programme.
In June, the group made a presentation to a joint session of the Oireachtas Justice and Transport committees arguing that the model could work in other counties. That was just two months after a deputation to Donegal County Council warned that the project’s future could be jeopardised if funding issues were not addressed.
