Derry man pleads guilty to a number of terrorist charges

A 42-year-old Derry man has pleaded guilty at Belfast Crown Court to a number of terrorist charges.
The trial of Christopher Paul O’Kane had been due to start today, however, he was re-arraigned and pleaded guilty to a number of charges relating to incidents in the city in the early 1990s.
These included: assisting an offender in relation to the murder of Constable Michael Ferguson on January 23 1994; and four counts of doing an act with intent to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property.
The explosives charges relate to an attack on police at Fanad Drive on October 5 1993; injuries to two soldiers close to Ebrington Barracks on December 14 1993; an injury to a solider at a boat jetty at Fort George on May 23 1994; and the partial detonation of a bomb at the home of a senior police officer at Prehen on February 3 1994.
He will be sentenced on December 16.
