A Donegal Deputy is questioning The Department of Marine’s claim that 85% of material dredged from Killybegs harbour can be safely dumped at sea.
The dredging is to be conducted as part of a proposed pier extension.
The local community council has welcomed the work, but is concerned that dumping what is dredged at sea could cause pollution and should instead be disposed of on shore.
Deputy Thomas Pringle recently raised the issue in a Parliamentary Question to Minister Coveney – He’s questioning why a report recommended against dumping at sea from this area in 2004, but it’s apparently acceptable now…………
